You’re The Decider

President Bush is a divider, not a uniter. After signing that dreadful bit of legislation into existence, the one that removes anyone’s right to challenge imprisonment or “enemy combatant” status in court, the GOP wasted no time in using it as a campaign ploy in the upcoming election. If he truly wanted to win a war, he would bring everyone together, ask us for some sacrifices, and say things like “We’re all in this together.” But he doesn’t.
I went digging at the National Archive for posters from the World Wars. The difference is striking. In those wars, everybody could feel like they were contributing. Be it through saving food, saving gas, buying bonds, joining up, or even finding a way to save time, like the poster to the right.

This poster encourages us to think, and ask how things could be better. Unlike some other people I could mention, who seem to think that asking questions is treason.

Sure, it’s government propaganda. But it’s a marked difference in agenda. If Bush wanted to truly end this war, he’d ask us to do more.

It’s hard in these circumstances to not see anything he does in a political light then. That is, as anything but to grab more power, for purely the end of more power. No one should have that much power.

No one.
