You’re The Decider

But you can still register in person on election day in some. So now it’s the final push to make sure that five of your friends and family vote, especially ones that only vote in presidential elections.
 
I’ve made it pretty clear why this election is important to me, but I’d like to reiterate. Please elect democrats. This country badly needs some oversight in many many many areas. Our children and grandchildren will be cleaning this up for a very  long time.
 
The current governing party, the Republicans, don’t believe in government. They actually want it to die off. And they’ve done a really good job of it. Personally, I like roads, I like national parks, I like basic scientific research that doesn’t have a commercial use, I like that my grandmother was not out on the street dying of sickness in her old age, I like toxic waste dumps cleaned up, clean air and water. I also like for companies to pay a fair share to the government for mining and logging on public lands. Oh, and I like public space and lands. Not everything needs to be privately owned or maintained.
 
There are also problems that can only be solved on a large scale. Such as: global warming, natural disasters, national security, health epidemics. Solving them requires government. Government based on facts.
 
Instead, the Republicans are governing based on giving buddies breaks in tax laws, corporate welfare, and no-bid contracts. It’s not good governing. People in Iraq, both Iraqis and our troops, are suffering because certain companies do not have any oversight over the goods they supply.
 
So, vote Democratic to get at least a bit of oversight in. Please. As conservative columnist Andrew Sullivan points out, we can fight over hate crime laws and Medicare later, but “But habeas corpus, war, torture, and basic fiscal responsibility are the issues now.” This is important.
 
And get five friends to, too. Especially ones who are turned off by all the negative campaigning. I don’t own a TV, but I hear that there are lots of ads slinging mud at the other candidate. Tune it out. It’s only to get you to stay at home. Don’t.
