“You’re the decider.” A former colleague devised this witticism which I helped publish elsewhere already. I’m happy to credit him should he desire, but of course the genesis goes to our President. In response to the advice of retired generals that he fire Rumsfeld for incompetence, Mr. Bush said last April:
“But I'm the decider, and I decide what is best. And what's best is for Don Rumsfeld to remain as the Secretary of Defense.”
But really, you are the decider. Every other November, you get to decide whether your government is doing a good job. Or not.

Why I’m doing what I’m doing
Until 9/26, I held an awesome position at Apple Computer: I wrote on the Internets all about fun new technology that I loved, managed others doing the same, helped turn iPods into fashion statements, and explained why you’ll love a Mac.
But I kept getting distracted by current events.
I really think I shouldn’t have to worry about going to work, going submarine on some project, and surfacing to find out that a fundamental right, one that makes the rule of law workable at all, is suddenly no longer valid. Almost 800 years ago, good men spent good ponies chasing that king down on that meadow to sign that paper. And I can’t believe that the lackeys in Congress are so craven and greedy that they would go along. Didn’t they take Social Studies?
So anyways, I go away on vacation in August, and come back after Labor Day to find the noise machine blaming Clinton of all people for the attacks on 9/11. Cuz, you know, he was still president then. Or something. And while people get all in a snit those weasels try to override the Geneva conventions, War Crimes act, and that piece of paper. Like people wouldn’t notice.
Or give a damn.
So, I quit my job on 9/12 to focus on this full-time. Maybe if more normal people step up and say how crazy things are, it’ll change.
And your vote matters.
Pass it on.
